COMEDY: JANEY GODLEY
One of the highest recommendations you can make for Janey Godley is that she never performs the same set twice. Though currently preoccupied with her family, the Shettleston comic is such a natural-born storyteller and treasure trove of anecdotes that she can pluck a fully formed, if occasionally digressive, show from the ether the second she takes the stage. An ex-publican who gave Jerry Sadowitz his first gig and used to stage impromptu plays in her gangster-frequented establishment, Godley is capable like few others of taming a raucous Glasgow crowd, keeping the punters entertained while never letting them forget who's guvnor. Recently returned from the Bafta awards, where her guest was none other than John Smeaton, Godley remains tremendous gas, with a life less ordinary to draw inspiration from and an inquisitive empathy for life's quirkier characters. |
