BAYING FOR BLOOD OVER
McCARTNEY-MILLS SPLIT
by Janey Godley

The knives have been out for long time. Now with multiple sources coming forward with tales of the '5 Grand hooker' racing to the red tops faster than the England World Cup team can run on German turf, Heather Mills McCartney has now fulfilled the role of the most hated woman in Britain today. Rebecca Loos must be breathing a sigh of relief.

In the safe cocoon of her marriage to Sir Paul, Heather enjoyed a degree of silence from the press, as no-one ever wanted to take a swipe at their 'Beloved Beatle'. Now with the divorce impending, those dark tales from former friends who allegedly were her co-workers are now coming to light.

If the rumours are true and she did enjoy a lifestyle in the 1980s and early 90s that would have rivalled some of the Conservative Politicians of the time, why should it reflect on her life now? It seems the Great British Public cannot wait to see her tarred and feathered. Do we really hate to see anyone with a less than perfect past finally get contentment?

I would assume that Sir Paul McCartney's lifestyle in his heyday of the swinging sixties must have been racy.

No one bats an eyelid at the partying of the rock and roll boys, and the girls who hung around with the band were called groupies, so what do we call the guys that have sex with those girls? There is no word for it.

Will it always be the girls who get vilified for showing the boys their knickers?

I haven't read any articles that point out the indignity of these so called rich Arabs who took part in the alleged sex parties. We have men coming forward to speak openly about paying girls for sex with their boss.

I personally have no issue with this, as I believe prostitution should be legalised. Yet no one has questioned the morality of that transaction.

Heather Mills McCartney is recovering from a serious operation, she is the mother of a small child and going through a difficult separation, yet all sympathy lies with Sir Paul. It does feel like we are going back a few centuries and before long she will probably be thrown in the sea like a witch off the Mull of Kintyre.

One would assume in all second marriages there would be 'pasts' to be dealt with, whether or not Sir Paul was aware of the rumours of his wife is something we can all speculate on. Whether he chose to ignore or deal with it, is surely his choice, but the sheer amount of screaming headlines seems to be hypocritical in today's supposed enlightened society, where young men are slapped on the back with honour for their sexual exploits, yet women still need to justify their choices.

There has also been some criticism of Heather Mills McCartney's demeanour and behaviour. People have called her pushy and difficult. Maybe she is ambitious and unrelenting, but does that make her a bad person? Every facet of her personality is now being questioned to validate the hate that is being spat in her direction.

Some newspapers have articles written in the style of 'Dear Sir Paul, I hate to say we told you so'. The British public are ready and waiting with a shoulder to cry on. This may say more about us as a society than we care to examine.

Women are now responsible for their own sexual choices and exploits, just as men have been for centuries. Apparently we live in the land of the free, isn't that what we are fighting for?
